Kazakhstan sends 2,000 tons of diesel fuel as humanitarian aid to Kyrgyz Republic

ASTANA -The Kazakh Ministry for Emergency Situations announced on Feb. 29 that it had sent 2,000 tons of diesel fuel as humanitarian aid to the Kyrgyz Republic. The aid was meant to help the country cope with the consequences of a boiler explosion at the Bishkek Thermal Power Plant on Feb. 2.

The explosion damaged the equipment of the only power plant in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, leaving about 10% of the population without heating and hot water in the middle of winter.

The diesel fuel was donated from the state material reserve, following the order of President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev to support the Kyrgyz people. The first batch of 1,000 tons was delivered on Feb. 28 in 17 tank cars from the Zarya branch of the Reserve national enterprise. The second batch was expected to arrive soon.

The humanitarian cargo was to be handed over to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy, which was responsible for restoring the power supply in Bishkek.
