World Bank opens permanent office in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan –The World Bank has inaugurated a permanent representative office in Tajikistan. Ozan Sevimli, the bank’s country manager for Tajikistan since 2021, has been appointed as the head of the new office.

In Tajikistan, the World Bank Group focuses on ensuring reliable electricity and water supply, enhancing roads and transportation infrastructure, improving education and healthcare systems, boosting food security, and fostering private sector growth along with good governance and public administration.

As part of his role, Sevimli will oversee programs in Tajikistan conducted by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Development Association, the International Finance Corporation, and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency. This will provide a centralized point of access to the full range of World Bank Group products and services.

Upon his appointment, Sevimli remarked: “Tajikistan faces various challenges, from institutional hurdles and limitations in human capital development to the adverse impacts of climate change on the economy and livelihoods. The unified leadership of the World Bank Group will enable a more comprehensive approach to these projects.”
