UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres says millions of people facing hunger will “pay the price” of Russia’s decision to quit the Ukraine grain deal.
He told reporters at the United Nations headquarters in New York that Moscow action will hurt millions of poor and hungry people.
“Hundreds of millions of people face hunger. They will pay the price,” Guterres said.
The UN chief’s statement comes after Russia claimed it was exiting a major accord to facilitate Ukraine grain exports hours after drones hit Russia’s only bridge connecting to the annexed Crimea peninsula.
The UN chief world body would effort to “facilitate the access” to global markets of food and fertilisers from Ukraine and Russia.
