This state-of-the-art facility, expected to be operational by\u00a0<strong>2027<\/strong>, is set to become the largest of its kind in Asia, reinforcing Korean Air\u2019s position in the aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) industry.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the key highlights of this groundbreaking project:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Size and Scope<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The new engine maintenance complex spans over\u00a0<strong>140,000 square meters<\/strong>\u00a0and comprises\u00a0<strong>seven levels<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>With a total investment of\u00a0<strong>578 billion won<\/strong>, this facility is being constructed by\u00a0<strong>Kolon Global<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It will be strategically located next to the existing\u00a0<strong>Engine Test Cell (ETC)<\/strong>, which Korean Air has utilized since 2016.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Streamlined Operations<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Traditionally, engine maintenance was split between Korean Air\u2019s Bucheon facility and final performance testing at the ETC in Unbuk.<\/li>\n<li>By centralizing all stages of engine maintenance at this single location, the cluster aims to\u00a0<strong>enhance operational efficiency<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expanded Capacity and Engine Types<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Korean Air plans to significantly increase its capacity to service aircraft engines, ramping up from\u00a0<strong>100 to 360 engines annually<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The airline currently overhauls six engine models, including General Electric\u2019s GE90-115B, CFM International\u2019s CFM56, and Pratt &amp; Whitney\u2019s PW4000 and GTF.<\/li>\n<li>As part of the expansion, three additional engine models\u2014GE\u2019s GEnx and CFMI\u2019s LEAP-1B\u2014are being added to the lineup.<\/li>\n<li>Furthermore, Korean Air is exploring the possibility of maintaining Asiana Airlines\u2019 engines, including the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB used in the Airbus A350.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Job Creation<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The new maintenance cluster is expected to generate\u00a0<strong>over 1,000 new jobs<\/strong>, bolstering the domestic aviation MRO industry\u2019s competitiveness and reducing reliance on foreign maintenance services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Korean Air\u2019s commitment to excellence and innovation in aircraft maintenance positions it as a leader in the global aviation landscape.
