London hosts historic pro-Palestinian march with strict police supervision

LONDON(Raza Syed/Ruby Hyder)-On Armistice Day in London, a significant pro-Palestinian protest took place, despite opposition from the UK government. The Israeli regime’s ongoing actions in the besieged Gaza Strip, which have been described as genocide against the Palestinian people, prompted hundreds of thousands of individuals to gather in the British capital city. These demonstrators expressed their solidarity with the Palestinians and called for a humanitarian ceasefire. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police Service, anticipating potential disruptions, deployed nearly 2,000 officers across central London. The event featured speakers such as Jeremy Corbyn, former Labour leader, and actors Juliet Stevenson and Maxine Peake, who delivered their speeches from a special stage.

One of the march organizers from the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) told The Guardian on Friday that he expected a huge turnout of people from all over the UK to join the pro-Palestinian rally in London. The march will start from Park Lane and head toward the US Embassy in southwest London.

The PSC director, Ben Jamal, said, “We think it is going to be one of the largest political marches in British history, with more than 500,000 people expected to converge on London,” according to a statement released by the PSC.

The statement also expressed the PSC’s “concerns at the disgraceful remarks by [British} Home Secretary Suella Braverman,” who “has tried to undermine the call for a cease-fire, which is backed by the vast majority of the British public, slander those marching for peace and incite public unrest.”

Jamal said, “Hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life will come to London to march for peace, for a cease-fire, and for the respect of the Palestinian people’s rights, contrary to the disgraceful rhetoric of Suella Braverman and other political leaders.”
