Israel’s attack on Iranian consulate in Syria was ‘suicide’ :Top General

TEHRAN,Iran April 6/Press TV/ -Iran’s highest-ranking military official has denounced the recent Israeli assault on Iranian diplomatic sites in Syria as reckless and irrational.

During Major General Mohammad Reza Zahedi’s memorial service in Isfahan, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, the Iranian Armed Forces’ Chief of Staff, delivered these comments. Zahedi, along with six other IRGC military advisors, was killed in Israeli airstrikes aimed at the Iranian Consulate in Damascus.

“The Zionist regime’s recent missile strike against the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which is protected by international law, is an act of sheer folly that could lead to its own downfall,” Baqeri declared.

He underscored Iran’s resolve to respond, stating, “Our brave forces will ensure the adversary faces retribution, and our vengeance is certain.”

Baqeri also cautioned that the United States shares culpability for the assault and should be held accountable.

On April 1, Israeli aircraft targeted the Iranian consulate, resulting in the fatalities of Zahedi and his second-in-command, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, has vowed that Israel will suffer repercussions for its hostile actions.

At the memorial service, Baqeri declared that the Israeli regime’s ambition to control West Asia is failing, as forces from the Quds and their allies across the Islamic World, including Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and Iran, are uniting to challenge Israel.

He commended the Palestinians’ Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupied territories last October, noting that the counterstrike showcased only a fraction of the resistance front’s capabilities.

Baqeri emphasized that the unexpected offensive by the Hamas-led Palestinian resistance inflicted a significant setback on Israel, which has not met any of its objectives following a six-month offensive in Gaza.

He affirmed that the resistance remains robust and is committed to the eradication of the occupying power.

Despite ongoing severe attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, with Tel Aviv imposing restrictions on water, food, and electricity, the region has been thrust into a dire humanitarian situation.

After more than 180 days of conflict, the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached at least 33,091, with 75,750 others wounded, predominantly women and children.
