Japan defeat means Germany have no margin for error: Flick

DOHA (Reuters) November 24 Germany have their backs to the wall after losing to Japan in their World Cup opener and cannot afford to slip again if they have a chance to go ahead against Spain on Saturday. the director told Flick.

The four-time world champion suffered a stunning 2-1 loss to the Japanese on Wednesday after leading 1-0 and wasting many chances.

The German inexplicably took his foot off the Axel in the second half, conceding two late goals after conceding three straight defeats in the opener of a major tournament.

“There are no more free recordings,” Flick told an online news conference Thursday.

“We wasted the first one. We have to work on things now and improve. Now we have to move forward and show our character to maintain our chances in the final group match.”

Germany’s final game will be against Costa Rica on December 1st.

“We have confidence in the team, we have a positive attitude and we want to go into Sunday’s game positively,” he added.

“It’s important to process defeat, clear your mind, and focus on your next task. That’s our goal. To get the team to a place they can trust.

Germany experienced their first World Cup elimination in 80 years when they were knocked out in the first round of the 2018 World Cup.

Instead of laying the groundwork for a tournament win in Qatar, the loss to Japan put Germany back behind and facing elimination from Spain.

“We did some things tactically that weren’t right and we have to get better,” Flick said. “That’s how it is in football. you have to do your best.
