Uzbekistan achieves landmark election to ILO Governing Body, secured 194 vote

GENEVA – In a historic first, Uzbekistan has been elected to the Administrative Council of the International Labour Organization (ILO). During the 112th Session of the International Labour Conference at the ILO headquarters in Geneva, elections were held for the members of the Organization’s Governing Body and their deputies for the period 2024-2027.

Uzbekistan received the highest number of votes, securing 194 with a required minimum of 105, making it a deputy member of the ILO Administrative Council for the first time in its history. This election marks a significant milestone as Uzbekistan joins this key ILO body.

The election result is a testament to the international community’s recognition of the determination and political will of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Under his leadership, the country has eradicated child and forced labour, ratified several crucial ILO conventions promoting decent work principles, and shifted from ignoring problems to addressing them through dialogue.

The Governing Body is the executive arm of the ILO, responsible for managing the Organization’s work between sessions of the International Labour Conference and determining the implementation procedures of its decisions. The Administrative Council, part of the Governing Body, convenes three sessions annually in March, June, and November, and consists of 56 members and 66 deputies elected for three-year terms.

Uzbekistan’s recent election to the Administrative Council highlights the nation’s growing influence and significant achievements within the UN and its leading structures.
