MOSCOW, February 19(TASS)- The new Russian and US ambassadors will very shortly begin their work in its entirety, a source in Russia’s parliament told TASS.
“Envoys from Russia and the U.S. will assume their full duties very soon. This is crucial for the normalization of bilateral relations,” the source said.
Previous Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov wrapped up his mission in Washington in October 2024.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said in late January that Moscow would like the issuance of an agrement to the new Russian ambassador in Washington to be expedited. In late November 2024, the Russian media reported that Alexander Darchiyev, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of North America, might be appointed the country’s new ambassador to Washington, succeeding Antonov, who had returned to Moscow after being relieved of his duties by a decree from President Vladimir Putin.
This information has not yet been officially confirmed. The Russian Foreign Ministry told TASS that the nominee for the post of the head of the diplomatic mission had already been determined, but the name was being kept under wraps for now. According to Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the ambassador will be appointed in the near future.
Meanwhile, current US Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy, who was appointed by former US President Joe Biden, continues in her post. There has been speculation that Donald Trump may replace Tracy with someone else.
