Belgium’s justice minister resigns amid criticism for failing to extradite gunman

BRUSSELS (Imran Saqib Chouhdary)- Belgium’s justice minister, Vincent Van Quickenborne, has tendered his resignation in the wake of a distressing revelation concerning the recent attack in Brussels. An Islamic extremist, Abdesalem Lassoued, responsible for the murder of two Swedish nationals, had been denied asylum and was the subject of an extradition request from Tunisia.

The shocking development unfolded as authorities delved into the circumstances surrounding how Abdesalem Lassoued had seemingly vanished from their radar two years ago, following his rejection for asylum.

Justice Minister Van Quickenborne made the announcement late on Friday, revealing that he and his team had been diligently pursuing information to fathom the details of Lassoued’s disappearance after his asylum denial.

This incident has sent shockwaves through Belgium, prompting concerns about the nation’s security and the handling of individuals with extremist backgrounds.
